Today was one of those days when the world seems to say, "Relax, today is for boredom." Lots of driving, lots of grey, and a wind that still seemed determined to mess up our hair for fun. As we went to bed late after the boat trip, we slept until a time worthy of royalty and went out when the sun was half-risen... or so, because the sky was so grey that you couldn't really tell.

We had to head towards Brindisi, a journey that will take us several days and that, for a change, started with a bit of Roman chaos: Google Maps sent us onto the ring road around Rome, which in theory is the fastest route. It includes a couple of tolls, but it was also full of accidents. Result: one traffic jam after another, more patience than I thought I had, and me looking out the window thinking that those fixed red lights looked like signs saying "no excitement today."

Fed up with so much motorway, we decided to get off and continue on national, regional and provincial roads. It was already a bit better there, although not much. Minimum stops: we stretched our legs and paws a couple of times, a jump to Lidl for shopping, another to fill up with water at a fountain... and then straight to find a place to sleep.

And here came the surprise: overnight spots are scarce. Before, this was easy, with areas for motorhomes in the middle of nature, with the smell of the forest and guaranteed tranquility. Now you have to investigate a little more. In the end, we found a picnic area in Monte di Togna. The truth is that the place is quite good: wide views of the mountains with snow caps, quiet, nobody around... and me, of course, already imagining races and sniffing tomorrow morning.

A grey and boring day, yes, but sometimes even those days have their charm. Especially if you end up in a quiet corner where you can close your eyes and feel that the wind, although annoying, can't beat you.
