Waterfalls, tunnels and mud: the big day at the Monasterio de Piedra

We started the day calmly. In the morning there was fog, thick and silent, the kind that makes you think the world hasn't quite started up yet. When it lifted, we did the same. Before leaving, we took a look at the viewpoint where we had slept. By day it looked even better and I took the opportunity for a quick inspection of the terrain, just in case someone had changed the landscape during the night.

It took us about ten or fifteen minutes by car to get to the Monasterio de Piedra. We parked without a hitch, which is already a success, and Daddy Edu went to the ticket office to buy his ticket for the park. I got in for free, with a leash and a professional attitude. The Monasterio de Piedra is an old Cistercian monastery surrounded by a huge natural park, famous for its waterfalls, rivers and trails.

And the word "huge" is no exaggeration. We spent more than two hours walking among waterfalls, trees, stairs, tunnels, ponds and viewpoints. Everything green, humid and spectacular. Water falling everywhere, paths that go up and down without asking permission and interesting smells every five steps. I loved it. Lots of space, lots of nature and happy humans, which you can always feel in the pace of the walk.

After the park, I stayed in the camper while Daddy Edu visited the monastery inside. The Monasterio de Santa María de Piedra was founded in the 12th century by Cistercian monks. When he returned, his verdict was clear: pretty, but a bit disappointing. You can't see much and the church was closed for works. So I confirmed that my decision to stay inside had been very sensible.

We ate in the camper and then it was time for the car again. A good stretch of motorway heading west, fast and without complications. I took the opportunity to sleep deeply, which is also an important part of the trip.

Almost at night we arrived in Medinaceli. There is a large motorhome area, of earth and mud, with drinking water services and for grey water. There are about five more campers in the car park. We also stayed here to sleep. Tomorrow we will explore Medinaceli, but that will be another story.

Me, for now, mission accomplished. Tired paws, a happy snout and the feeling of having had a very, very good day.
