🐾 Subiendo al 🪨 Kjeragbolten - Kjerag 🇳🇴 Noruega
Audio file
We slept like kings in a prime spot between the road and the lake, with a breathtaking view! My dad took advantage of the privacy to get a makeover: he shaved his head, trimmed his beard, and even took a refreshing shower. A whole new man!
After that outdoor spa session, we hit the road, and after a two-hour drive, we arrived at the Kjerag parking lot. But hold on! They wanted to charge us 300 Norwegian krona, which is about 27 euros. No way! Dad decided we'd drive two more kilometers to a free parking spot. Saving a bit never hurts. Then we had to hike up to the start of the trail, but we did it in record time.
The Kjerag trail was our mission of the day. The beginning promised to be a real challenge: super steep, with people climbing like spiders, holding onto chains that looked like makeshift railings. Thankfully, the whole path wasn't like that. Halfway up, when the landscape had changed a bit, we took a break. Just in time to see three young guys jump off the edge with parachutes (and one with a wingsuit) from almost a thousand meters high. Well, we only saw one jump, because a thick fog rolled in, and the other two decided to wait for better conditions.
We continued our hike to the top, with the fog so dense we couldn't see more than 20 meters ahead. We were literally navigating between markers other adventurers had placed to avoid getting lost. What a doggone challenge! Finally, we reached the top. Even though there was fog and it was freezing, we could see the famous Kjeragbolten: a round boulder wedged between two rocks, hanging over a several-hundred-meter drop. And what a spectacular view! But to enjoy it, we had to wait for the fog to clear.
While my dad was snapping photos and selfies like there was no tomorrow, I took the chance to rest, wrapped in his raincoat. That's when Dad started chatting with a man named Milhai, and soon his wife, Evgeniya, joined in. They were originally from Bulgaria but had been living in England for 20 years. They invited us to join them on the way down, and honestly, the descent was much more enjoyable with such great company. Dad chatted with them non-stop, and before we knew it, we were back at the parking lot.
We said our goodbyes to Milhai and Evgeniya and, with a smile and new friends, continued our journey. We grabbed the car and set out to find a good spot to settle down. But the closest places to Kjerag were very exposed, with bad weather, lots of wind, fog, and cold. Plus, some spots were already taken by other campers.
Finally, we found a beautiful spot by a lake. It's super peaceful, and we're all alone here, surrounded by the tranquility of the water. We're sure we'll sleep very well because we're both exhausted. Another adventure for the doggie memory book!
